Sunday 25th March 2012
Richmondshire Eco week events will give advice on energy saving and affordable warmth, promote practical small scale renewable energy and will raise awareness of more sustainable living. We will be planting trees across Richmondshire and will establish a new 'Jubilee Wood' in Foxglove Covert Nature Reserve. We hope you enjoy the week. |

During the Eco week, the Yorkshire Energy Partnership will be targeting areas of Richmondshire with information packs to encourage residents to think about adopting renewable energy technologies to lower their fuel bills and lower their carbon foot print. Read More >> |
Poor energy efficiency can be caused by draughty buildings, inadequate or missing insulation and inefficient or old heating systems. Good levels of insulation
traps heat in your home like a blanket - it includes loft, cavity wall, solid wall and floor insulation as well as draughtproofing. If you are really interested in energy efficiency and want to lower your fuel bills you could also consider renewable technologies. You could generate free electricity or low cost heat
and potentially benefit from the Feed in Tariff or Renewable Heat Premium Payment schemes.
Affordable warmth is becoming a serious issue. In 2009 25.2% of households in Richmondshire were in fuel poverty (needing to spend more than 10% of their income on fuel to keep warm) against 20% nationally. The problem is particularly severe in the Yorkshire Dales, where rates of between 35% - 50% are found.
Affordable warmth is largely down to three factors - income, energy prices
and energy efficiency.
You may qualify for a Warm Front grant to help improve the insulation of your home. You must be in receipt of certain benefits and your home must be poorly heated or insulated.
To find out if you are eligible contact Warm Front on 0800 3162805
Reduce your heating bills and feel warmer in your home. Richmondshire District Council works with the Yorkshire Energy Partnership to offer FREE insulation to most residents.
